These artists are turning burnt-out cars into art in Ukraine

They plan to sell digital images of the work as non-fungible tokens (NFTs)

(Trek Kelly, Los Angeles-based muralist: "So, the project is about raising money for Ukrainian artists, and collaborating with them and cooperating with cities who will designate for us the appropriate walls that they wish to be beautified, some in very damaged areas. Specifically because they wanna beautify those areas for peoples' spirits until they can rebuild. And then we're making NFTs out of the murals so that they can be sold to help fund local humanitarian causes."

The initiative has upset some locals

who think it's too soon to beautify the wreckage of war

(Casimir Kiendl, Former Kyiv resident) "I understand the idea of the flowers showing hope for the future, and that Ukraine cannot be destroyed despite what the Russians tried to do here, but I don't know, maybe it's to soon. Maybe it's too soon to be drawing flowers. I'm not sure but I understand the idea."

Kelly says the cars were largely recovered in the city of Irpin

from a bridge destroyed by Ukrainian forces to halt the advance of Russian tanks

He also says city authorities have approved their work

and assured the artists no one had died in the vehicles
