California lottery reveals $2.04B jackpot winner

STORY: The winner of the $2.04 billion ticket was previously announced in November, but his identity was not revealed. Castro did not attend the ceremony, but California Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker read a statement on his behalf.

"I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing," Castro said in the statement. “The real winner is the California public school system. The mission of the California lottery, which is to provide supplemental funding for California public education on public schools and colleges, makes this a huge win for the state.”

Becker said $156.3 million of the winnings will go to state public education.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
