Chinese bulk buy salt after Fukushima water release

STORY: The video showed shoppers grabbing large sacks of salt near the cashier of a shop in Daoxian, as local authorities posted a statement saying that there was a rush to buy salt due to the release of contaminated water from Fukushima into the sea.

Reuters was able to confirm the packages to be a salt product and the location of the videos, but not when the footage was filmed.

The Chinese state-run National Salt Industry Group, the world's biggest common salt producer, said in a statement on Thursday (August 24) that it was ramping up supplies as people in parts of China had rushed to stock up.
