Danish queen greets well-wishers at the royal palace

STORY: Denmark’s Queen Margrethe appeared on the balcony of the royal palace in Copenhagen on Sunday (April 16), to greet well-wishers after undergoing back surgery in February.

Wearing a light-blue dress, the Queen appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg palace in the centre of the Danish capital along with members of her family, waving to a crowd of well-wishers gathered in the square below.

It was the first time in five years that the Queen took part in the birthday greeting at her palace in Copenhagen, which was also marked by a parade by Denmark’s Royal Life Guard in their red dress uniforms.

Supporters cheered and waved Danish flags as the monarch made several appearances.

Queen Margrethe is expected to resume her official duties on the day, the royal household said in a press release.
