Flights cancelled as British Airways pilots stage first strike

British Airways pilots started a two-day strike on Monday (September 9) morning.

The airline says nearly 100 percent of its flights have been cancelled, affecting thousands of travelers.

It's the first time the company's pilots have ever walked out.

Pay is their big concern.

They want BA to share more of its profits.

The pilots' union has scheduled another day of industrial action for September 27.

Now both sides say they're willing to talk.

The pilots say they're ready to compromise, and blame the airline for being unwilling to budge.

Last week BA rejected a new offer from the pilots, saying it was inflated and not made in good faith.

The union said it would have called off the strike, had executives been willing to talk.

On Monday a spokeswoman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged both sides to end the dispute.
