STORY: Around 25 NATO peacekeeping soldiers, who were defending three town halls in northern Kosovo, were injured in clashes with Serb protesters on Monday (May 29), after clashes had erupted already on Friday as local Albanian mayors tried to take up office.

Kosovo police said in a statement that the situation in the region was "fragile, but calm".

Unrest in the region has intensified since ethnic Albanian mayors took office in northern Kosovo's Serb-majority area after April elections the Serbs boycotted, a move that led the U.S. and its allies to rebuke Pristina on Friday.
