STORY: Getting or keeping a coveted blue tick on Twitter could soon cost money.

The platform’s new owner, Elon Musk, Tweeted on Sunday (October 30) that the ‘whole verification process is being revamped’.

But did not give more details.

Technology newsletter Platformer reported on Sunday that the change could include charging users.

Citing two people familiar with the matter, it said users would have to subscribe to Twitter Blue - costing $4.99 a month.

Or face losing the blue check mark which verifies the identity of the account holder.

Separately, The Verge reported that Twitter will increase the subscription price for Twitter Blue.

Pushing it up to $19.99 a month.

That’s according to internal correspondence seen by them.

Twitter Blue was launched last year as the platform’s first subscription service.

It offers access to additional features - such as an option to edit tweets - on a monthly subscription basis.

The reports come just days after Musk took over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.

Big job cuts could be set to follow.

On Monday (October 31) the Washington Post said Musk planned to cut a quarter of Twitter staff as part of a first round of layoffs.
