Selcuk Bayraktar, the man behind the Turkish drone taking out Russian forces in Ukraine, was awarded an honorary doctorate in Azerbaijan on Wednesday 25 May.
Bayraktar is Technology Director of Baykar Company and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation).
He the architect of Turkey's first indigenous combat drone system.
The Bayraktar TB2 UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) has proved devastatingly effective against Russian forces in Ukraine, despite being relatively slow and lacking sophisticated stealth technology.
The drone was also used in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, by Azerbaijan against the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh and its backer Armenia.
Bayraktar was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) with the Order of Karabakh.
The event was attended by Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Jahid Bagchi and heads of various ministries of the two countries, as well as teachers and university students.
