This video, which was filmed on August 17, shows the press conference on the alarming situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The conference is held by Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrsky, and Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko. The Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, says: "We are very concerned. Since 5 August, the situation has changed dramatically". He also comments on the future visit of the IAEA by saying: "We want to see impartiality. The IAEA should say something about the war and the safety. If you see the military there, if you see the weapons, it directly influences the safety of the nuclear material at the station. They also need to give a technical estimate of what is happening because we don't have concrete information on what is inside there". The Minister of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrsky, says: "It is impossible to ensure the security of the station while the Russian occupational troops are present there". The nuclear power plant of Zaporizhzhia has been occupied by Russian troops since March 6, but the Ukrainian Energy State Agency keeps running its operations. On August 5 and 7, shells hit high-voltage power lines at the plant causing a fire. One of the power units has to be turned off. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of the act. In a statement published on August 11, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: "Regrettably, instead of de-escalation, over the past several days there have been reports of further deeply worrying incidents that could, if they continue, lead to disaster. I am calling for all military activities in the immediate vicinity of the plant to cease immediately and not to target its facilities or surroundings. We must be clear that any potential damage to Zaporizhzhia or any other nuclear facilities in Ukraine, or anywhere else, could lead to catastrophic consequences not only for the immediate vicinity, but for the region and beyond. This is wholly unacceptable".
