Distraught residents of north Kyiv voiced anger as they picked through damaged belongings and broken glass after their apartments were hit by Russian artillery on March 15.

In interviews with Ukrainian Witness, residents expressed their shock and anger at the sudden destruction to homes. An elderly resident said, “It’s so awful. No one knows what to do now. People are shocked.”

“Those damned orcs!” said one man. “They hit residential buildings. Not some [military] facilities, but people’s houses.”

One woman explained how she narrowly escaped being injured as she cleaned debris out of her home. “We need nuclear weapons so no one will ever attack us,” she said.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said a fire stretched across several floors of the building.
