STORY: Oasis fans were left wondering what the story was with high ticket prices this weekend.

Some who waited hours online to get tickets for the band's long-awaited reunion tour were left frustrated by soaring costs.

Now it's drawn the British government's attention.

It said it would investigate how prices for concert tickets sold on official websites are hiked when demand surges.

Culture minister Lisa Nandy said it was "depressing to see vastly inflated prices" on sites operated by authorized retailers.

The government investigation will include issues around the transparency and use of so-called dynamic pricing, a practice which pushes up costs when demand is high.

Nandy said it's part of an already planned review of ticket sales and the protection of consumers, and called for a fairer system to be created by working with artists, industry and fans.

One government minister said they bought two Oasis tickets for 350 pounds each - or about $460 - from an official retailer, more than double their original face value.

Oasis announced 17 shows in the UK and Ireland last week, after splitting up back in 2009.

The first date is due in Cardiff in July next year, followed by nights in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin.

All tickets in Britain were sold within around 10 hours on Saturday.
