Officials in the Chilean region of Biobio waded through thigh-high floodwater on Tuesday, June 11, to help residents after the Pichilo River overflowed.

Footage released by the Carabineros Region del Bio Bio shows officers carrying residents on their backs to safety, and pushing cars to higher ground.

Governor Rodrigo Diaz Worner participated in an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the consequences of the storm.

Heavy rainfall combined with increased water flow from nearby mountains to cause the flooding, local media reported.

Flooding was expected to continue until Thursday, according to the report.
