Parts of Beijing empty as COVID curbs extended

STORY: Despite denying rumors of a lockdown, authorities in the city of 22 million people have already banned dine-in services at restaurants, closed some malls, entertainment and tourist venues and suspended sections of its bus and subway systems.

Beijing said it found 55 new cases in the 24 hours to 3 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Sunday, 10 of which were outside areas that are under quarantine. The city is scrambling to stamp out such community infections.
