The Garuda Indonesia plane carrying the pope and his entourage arrived in the Papua New Guinean capital Port Moresby at around 7:10 p.m. (0900 GMT).

While in Papua New Guinea, the pope will make a day trip to the northwestern town of Vanimo, before departing the country on Monday (September 9).

He is then scheduled to visit Timor Leste and Singapore before returning to Rome on September 13.
