Poppies illuminate the Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House's sails were lit up with poppies for the 102nd anniversary of Remebrance Day on Wednesday.

A lone bugler played the Last Post as daylight approached, marking the end of World War I and paying a tribute to those who had made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The guns of the Western Front fell silent at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918 after more than four years of warfare.

More than 60,000 Australians lost their lives and more than 150,000 were wounded, taken prisoner or gassed during WW1, said the Australian War Memorial.
