"These people got killed while waiting for a train, while waiting for a bus, while being in love, while waiting to go with their grandfather to the village. These people were killed by corruption. These people were killed by this regime. These people were killed by the state."

The accident, which occurred on Friday (November 1), left 14 people dead and three severely injured.

Opposition politicians, activists, and rights groups in Serbia accuse Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party and its loyalists of widespread corruption, ties to organized crime, nepotism, and excessive bureaucracy.

Vucic and his allies, however, deny those allegations.
