New York City Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference with black clergy and civic leaders outside Gracie Mansion on Thursday, to address his indictment on federal charges.

Adams was indicted on charges of illegal campaign contributions and alleged solicitation and acceptance of bribes, particularly surrounding dealings with Turkish businesspeople.

At the beginning of the event, before Adams had a chance to speak, a protester could be heard saying:

“This is not a black thing, this is a you thing, Eric Adams. Your policies are anti-black. You are a disgrace to all black people in this city. The things that you have done are unconscionable. You hurt our schools, our streets are dirty, our children are harassed by the police. This is ridiculous.”

Protesters continued to interject throughout the event, accusing Adams of being corrupt. At one point the proceedings devolved into a cacophony of shouting from both sides. The event ended with protesters chanting, “Resign!”
