Rare designer handbags are going under the hammer at Christie’s

with some expected to fetch more than $100,000

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF SALES EMEA HANDBAGS AND ACCESSORIES AT CHRISTIE'S, LUCILE ANDREANI, SAYING: "It's starting from like 100 pounds ($135) and it's up to 80,000 ($107,000) pounds. So it's a very wide range and there is a bag for everybody."

Highlights include a range of Birkin bags by French luxury brand Hermès

which often start around $10,000

Leading the lot is a Birkin 20 Matte Béton Alligator bag in white

depicting Hermès’ flagship storefront on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris

It's expected to go for more than $100,000

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF SALES EMEA HANDBAGS AND ACCESSORIES AT CHRISTIE'S, LUCILE ANDREANI, SAYING: “So this is the Birkin Faubourg, it’s 20 cm, it’s showing the shop in Paris and here where you have the keys, it’s the shopping bag. It’s a very impressive piece. We’ve sold it in blue and brown and this is the first time we have the white at auction.”
