Rare Sighting of Critically Endangered Whale Captured By Drone off Delaware

A critically endangered North Atlantic right whale was spotted off Dewey Beach, Delaware, on September 14, with drone footage capturing the whale swimming close to shore, local media said.

Meteorologist Edward Russo, who filmed the sighting, told Storyful the video shows “a North Atlantic right whale swimming just 100 to 200 yards offshore of Dewey Beach.”

With an estimated population of only 360 individuals, the North Atlantic right whale is among the most endangered large whale species in the world, according to NOAA Fisheries. Credit: Edward Russo via Storyful
