Red Pandas Get Ready for Breeding Season at Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide Zoo has announced that preparations are underway for the upcoming breeding season of its red pandas, as part of an international program to safeguard the endangered species.

According to the zoo, red pandas are a solitary species and only come together for the breeding season, which lasts just a few weeks at the start of winter, leaving a “small window” to procreate.

The zoo’s breeding plan intends to mimic this behavior with female red panda Mishry and male Ravi being introduced and put in a shared enclosure.

“We’re working hard to give Mishry and Ravi the best opportunity for success and hope to have a cub update soon!” keeper Jemma Cleere said. Credit: Zoos SA via Storyful
