:: “I was scared yesterday because the water kept rising and a lot of people decided to evacuate to the school because most people have low-lying houses.”

The typhoon did not make landfall in the Philippines but has intensified seasonal monsoon rains, causing landslides and flooding over the past few days.

Residents in the riverside city of Marikina in Metro Manila returned to their homes caked in mud after the river overflowed from yesterday’s floods.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr told the disaster relief agencies to provide assistance and prepare supplies for isolated communities during a briefing on Wednesday (July 24), and the mayors of 16 cities in the Greater Manila region have asked for emergency funding, officials said.
