Kitchen in Poland provides meals for refugees

STORY: Food such as soup and stew is being prepared by the World Central Kitchen (WCK) from the early morning in the Polish town of Przemysl. Once it’s prepared, the food is then served to refugees coming in at the border crossing of Medyka.

"We do a lot of soups because it's very cold and the refugees that are coming, they cannot carry like a big plate of food because they are carrying all of their belongings. And they want something warm in their hands, so we do a lot of soups. We do hot chocolate, we do a lot of baby food as well," one volunteer, a chef named Clara, said on Monday (March 14) to Reuters.

World Central Kitchen is a U.S.-based non-profit specializing in feeding people affected by disasters and crises. It is operating both in cities inside Ukraine and in the neighboring countries which continue to take in millions of refugees fleeing the fighting.

Since the start of Russia's invasion, more than 2.5 million people have fled Ukraine, with over a two million being displaced internally, according to the United Nations.
