Ryanair to cut flights due to Boeing delays

STORY: Ryanair's aim to get more travellers into the skies has had a setback.

On Thursday (September 28) Europe's biggest airline by passenger numbers announced a cut to its winter schedule.

It blamed delays in the delivery of Boeing aircraft.

Ryanair said it had expected to receive 27 jets between September and December.

But now it only expects 14 during the three-month period.

Boeing has seen production delays at a key facility in Kansas, and repair and delivery hold-ups in Seattle.

Ryanair warned flight cancellations will now take effect from the end of October.

The Irish airline says passengers will find out which journeys are affected in the coming days.

CEO Michael O'Leary was hopeful Ryanair could cope.

He said he didn't expect the delivery delays to affect the company's full-year traffic target of 183.5 million passengers.

But he did warn that if the delays extended into next year then the company might have to adjust targets downward.

The budget airline's shares were down over 2.5% in early trade following the update.
