The Old Farmer’s Almanac cites names given to moons by Native American groups, that usually depict events in nature or pertain to wildlife. The 'Sturgeon' full moon of August is named after large sturgeon caught in the lakes of North America in the summertime.

The Sturgeon moon is the first of two supermoons in the month of August, with another expected on August 30.

Supermoons are full moons that come closest to Earth’s orbit, making them seem larger and brighter.
