Typhoon Hinnamnor pounds southwestern Japan

STORY: Parts of Kyushu were expected to be hit by some 300 millimetres (12 inches) of rain in the 24 hours to noon on Tuesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, as it warned of strong winds and storm surges.

Airlines cancelled flights and some companies suspended production at factories in some parts of the country, bracing for the impact of the approaching typhoon.
