Volvo Trucks has received an order for 100 electric trucks from shipping firm DFDS, marking an important milestone in the transition away from fossil fuels.

That’s according to Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm.

The company announced that it was one of the largest orders ever for electric trucks worldwide, adding that deliveries would start in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The FM Electric trucks have a driving range of up to 186 miles, and will be used for both short and long transport in Europe.

Volvo started serial production of electric trucks in 2019.

It’s targeting for half of its global truck deliveries to be electric in 2030.

The transport sector generates roughly a quarter of global carbon dioxide emissions.

A ‘green’ shift there is widely considered an important alignment with global climate goals.
