STORY: Canada is enduring its worst start to the wildfire season, with 2,392 fires so far this year and 4.4 million hectares (10.9 million acres) burned, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), roughly 15 times the annual average over the last decade.

The British Columbia wildfire service released aerial footage of the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire in the province's northeast, now estimated at a staggering 230 square kilometers.

It said winds were expected to shift east and away from the Tumbler Ridge on Saturday (June 10), which could help firefighters' efforts to save the community after the fire came within a few kilometers of the town, local media reported.
