STORY: Hydrologists say the worse is yet to come for Orenburg, a city of around 550,000 people.

The waters of the Ural River, which flows through Russia and Kazakhstan into the Caspian, may rise a further 28 inches (70 cm) by Thursday.

The Ural River burst through a dam embankment in the city of Orsk in Orenburg region, of which Orenburg is the administrative center, at the weekend.

Russia's Ministry of Defense over the last two days has released video footage of military engineers from a strategic missile unit providing aid to the residents of flooded areas in Orenburg region.

Aid is also provided by the personnel of the Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry. In one video, published by the ministry, first responders delivered food and water directly to residents of multi-storey buildings isolated because of high water levels.
