Timelapse footage of the North Bay Valleys near Santa Rosa, California, taken January 18 appeared to show a roiling “sea of fog,” the National Weather Service said.

Footage from an ALERTWildfire camera showed the fog obscuring mountains and valleys in the early morning of January 18. Visibility in Santa Rosa was estimated as low as half a mile.

One Twitter user said the undulating fog resembled “high tide.” Credit: ALERTWildfire via Storyful
