UC Davis researchers have updated suggested guidelines for when to spay or neuter your pet dog. Scientists began the research in 2013 with a study that suggested early neutering of golden retrievers puts them at an increased risk of joint diseases and certain cancers. Researchers have since added 39 other breeds to a chart highlighting the best time to spay or neuter dogs and cut down on joint disorders and cancer risk. The results came from an examination of data from thousands of dogs being treated at the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital.
