Brookfield Zoo Animals Play With Repurposed Christmas Trees

Animals at a Chicago-area zoo were presented with discarded Christmas trees with snacks hidden in them on Monday, January 17.

Footage filmed by Lynette Kleisner from the Brookfield Zoo shows several of the animals interacting with the enrichment items. Hudson, a male polar bear, enjoyed his “fish-mas” tree, while snow leopards Ahava and Malaya and five-year-old African lions Brutus and Titus received meat and bones, the zoo said in a press release.

According to the Brookfield Zoo, over 700 trees were to be repurposed for landscaping and flowerbeds throughout the 216-acre park.

“Animal care specialists are always thinking of ways to physically and mentally stimulate the animals at Brookfield Zoo,” they said. “One way is by providing them with enrichment items they normally do not receive on a regular basis, including the seasonal trees.” Credit: Lynette Kleisner/CZS-Brookfield Zoo via Storyful
