Snowy weather helped crews make strides in containing a 71,000-acre wildfire burning in central Nebraska on Wednesday, February 28, according to emergency management officials.

Tuesday’s weather was a “major factor” in allowing crews to bring the fire, dubbed the Betty’s Way fire, to 82 percent containment on Wednesday, the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency said.

A snow squall warning was in effect for the North Platte area on Tuesday, near where the fire was burning.
