FIFA Women's World Cup trophy begins Australia tour

STORY: The World Cup trophy has travelled to all 32 participating member associations ahead of the upcoming quadrennial tournament, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and will run from July 20 to August 20.

Former U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper and World Cup winner Briana Scurry and New South Wales Premier Chris Minns unveiled the trophy overlooking Sydney Harbour.

The trophy, designed in 1998, is made of gold-plated bronze and polished aluminium. It weighs 4.6 kg (10.14 lbs) and stands at 47 cm (18.5 inches) tall. Only former World Cup winners and heads of state are permitted to touch and hold the trophy.
