Police vehicles were seen on the streets of Moscow on Saturday, June 24, hours after Wagner mercenaries claimed they had control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, and were advancing in convoy towards the capital.

Speaking on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the group of “treason" and said what was unfolding was “a stab in the back of our country and our people,” according to a machine translation.

RIA Novosti reported security measures were being strengthened along a number of approaches to Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the city was on “high alert” and declared Monday would be a “non-working day”, advising all residents to avoid travel.
