Bridge on Outskirts of Melitopol 'Sabotaged' by Ukraine, Russian-Backed Official Says

A highway bridge located near the south Ukrainian city of Melitopol was damaged in an explosion on Monday night, December 12, Russian-backed authorities said.

Vladimir Rogov, an official in the Russian-backed administration of the Zaporizhzhia region, called the incident a “sabotage attack," saying explosives were planted on the supports of the bridge. Rogov also posted surveillance footage in which a loud bang can be heard.

The Ukrainian Mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, said the bridge was targeted by Ukraine as it was strategically important to Russia following the attack on the Kerch Bridge in Crimea. The move, he said, would hinder Russia’s transport of military equipment from the east.
