Police in Northern Ireland released surveillance footage of a car bomb detonating outside a courthouse on Bishop Street in Derry on the evening of January 19.

A statement issued by police said attackers stole a delivery van on Quarry Street before leaving it parked outside the courthouse. Officers who noticed the suspicious vehicle quickly evacuated the nearby area, including 150 people gathered at a nearby Masonic Hall. Media reports indicate police may have received a warning 30 minutes before the device exploded at 8:15 pm.

The footage released shows the car arriving outside the city courthouse and the driver fleeing, as well as the moment the van exploded.

Two men in their twenties were arrested in connection with the incident, according to police. A dissident republican group, the New IRA, is believed to have carried out the attack. There were no reported injuries or deaths in the explosion. Credit: Police Service of Northern Ireland – Derry City and Strabane via Storyful
