Police in riot gear arrived at the scene of where a group of Neo-Nazis intended to hold a rally in Newnan, Georgia, on Saturday, April 21.

A large group of counterprotesters, including Antifa members, were already at the scene before the scheduled start of the rally. But as of 4 pm, an hour after the planned start time, no one from the group had arrived, according to media reports. The group was spotted soon after.

Several arrests had been made among the counterprotesters, a news report said. More than 40 law enforcement agencies were in Newnan for the rally and counterprotest, and fences had been placed around the park where the rally was to be held.

City officials had said they had no choice but to approve the permit for the rally, which was to celebrate Adolf Hitler’s birthday. Between 50 and 100 members of the group were expected. Credit: fruitgoth_ via Storyful
