Smoke from hundreds of wildfires in British Columbia descended on Prince George Friday morning, August 17, turning day into night in a matter of minutes.

MP Todd Doherty shared these videos, the first taken shortly after 9am and the second just before 10am, to show conditions in the town. Prince George is southeast of the giant Shovel Lake fire, which has scorched nearly 170,000 acres. Shovel Lake is but one of 566 fires currently burning in the western province.
