The sound of clapping resonated across Hong Kong’s skyscrapers on the evening of April 3 as people took to their balconies and windows to applaud health care workers, as heard in this footage posted online.

According to a report from the South China Morning Post, the clapping initiative was organized by non-profit group Hong Kong Community Foundation and a volunteer group at Swire Properties, a property company in Hong Kong.

Similar initiatives have lifted spirits in other countries gripped by the COVID-19 epidemic, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Credit: Sera Murphy via Storyful
