The New South Wales Rural Fire Service issued a watch and act warning on January 26 as a fire broke out near Jervis Bay Airport.

The fire service said crews were back burning in an effort to strengthen containment lines. This, they said, would “increase fire activity and produce smoke which will be visible in the area.”

The South Coast Register reported that aircraft were involved in dumping water on the blaze, which has been dubbed the Booderee Fire. Credit: NSW Rural Fire Service via Storyful
