Boats Collide in Jersey Harbor Amid Post-Brexit Fishing Dispute

Two boats collided in the port of St Helier, Jersey, on May 6 as French fishing vessels descended on the island in a dispute over post-Brexit fishing rights.

This video was recorded by Barney Gordon and shows a French trawler colliding with another boat as people look on from the shore.

The incident came as around 60 French and Jersey-based vessels gathered at the harbor of St Helier. French fishermen argue their rights in waters around the island of Jersey, a British Crown Dependency, are being unfairly restricted under new licences.

Two French patrol vessels along with two Royal Navy ships were deployed during the dispute.

By the early afternoon, the French flotilla was heading away from Jersey after talks with officials, the BBC said. Credit: Barney Gordon via Storyful
