Crowds were dispersed in Gaza near the Israel border as people marked the 47th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day on Thursday, March 30.

Land Day is commemorated by Palestinian annually and dates back to 1976, when six Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces while protesting against the Israeli government’s decision to expropriate Palestinian-owned land in Galilee.

This year’s main Land Day march in Gaza saw large participation, local media reported.

Footage captured by Mohamed el Saife shows people gathering near the border. The crowds disperse as a gas wafts over the area. Storyful could not independently confirm the substance.

An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said several Palestinians threw grenades toward Israeli troops stationed at the border, The Times of Israel reported. They responded with tear gas and low-caliber rounds from a Ruger rifle, the paper reported. Credit: Mohamed el Saife via Storyful
