Smoke plumes billowing from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma deposited ash on shrubs as lava flows crept along roads on Monday, October 18.

This footage filmed by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute shows lava and ash covering Camino La Verada and Camino El Paraiso, they said.

According to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program, at least 1,835 structures had been destroyed after lava flows covered 789.6 hectares (about 3 square miles) as of Sunday. Credit: Canary Islands Volcanology Institute via Storyful
