Curious Fox Pups Emerge From Den in Southwest Maine

A trio of fox cubs were spotted peeking out from a burrow in a wooded area of Lewiston, Maine, on the evening of April 9.

Noella Potvin from the neighboring town of Auburn said she captured this video of the curious cubs while out on a springtime walk.

Maine is home to two species of foxes, the red fox and the gray fox, according to the state’s official website.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said female foxes typically give birth to three to six pups in the spring, and said family groups stay together until mid-September, “when pups begin to disperse from their natal home range.” Credit: Noella Potvin via Storyful
