'Despicable': US Health Secretary Responds to Abortion Ruling

US Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra outlined his department’s plans to protect reproductive health care on June 28 and called the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade “despicable” though “not unpredictable.”

Speaking to press in Washington, Becerra said the HHS Reproductive Access Task Force would help protect access to abortion for those living in states where abortion was illegal, including increasing “access to medication abortion,” ensuring “privacy and nondiscrimination for patients seeking reproductive health care,” along with other measures that aimed to support medical staff treating pregnant patients.
