Disneyland’s Splash Mountain ride welcomed its final guests on Tuesday, May 30, as the California theme park prepared to transform the site into “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure," an attraction inspired by the 2009 movie “The Princess and the Frog."

The ride was inspired by Disney’s “Song of the South,” a 1946 film known for its racist depictions of slavery and black Americans. In 2020, Disney decided to renovate the ride after renewed criticism, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Many visitors said they waited several hours in line to go on the ride before its closure for renovations.
