Dolphins Team Up to Catch Fish Along Florida Coast

Stunning footage shows a pod of bottlenose dolphins coordinating to catch fish close to the shoreline in St Petersburg, Florida.

This video, by Michael McCarthy of See Through Canoe, shows several dolphins performing the unique hunting technique known as mud-ring feeding, or mud-plume fishing, on June 6.

“With this coordinated mud-plume fishing a small pod of dolphins will form a line along the shoreline or in shallow water and then pump their tails up and down to create a wall of mud,” McCarthy told Storyful. “Some of the fish eventually go into the mud to hide, and while the fish can’t see much of anything in the cloud of mud, the dolphin has the advantage of sonar and is able to easily grab its meal.” Credit: See Through Canoe via Storyful
