'You Don't See This Every Day, Folks!': Orca Swims Alongside Fishing Boat

An orca made an appearance alongside a fishing boat off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, on May 15.

Jerry Leeman told Storyful he was roughly 40 miles east of Nantucket when he saw the killer whale emerging from the water. In footage, Leeman can be heard saying: “There’s literally a fricking killer whale beside the boat. You don’t see this every day, folks.”

Leeman told the Boston Globe that the orca was roughly 20 feet long and followed his boat for about half an hour.

“He came alongside the boat and was kind of just checking us out. It got alongside the boat about 15 feet and was kind of just easing along with us as we were towing. Then he just kind of went off on his own.” Credit: Jerry Leeman III via Storyful
