Drone Footage Shows Snow-Covered Area of Sonoma Previously Ravaged by Fire

Parts of Sonoma County, California, were covered in rare snow on January 27, according to local media reports, only months after they were ravaged by wildfires.

According to the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, “the Walbridge, Stewarts, Meyers, and Glass fires burned roughly 125,000 acres” during an unprecedented 2020 season.

The new year has brought its own extreme weather, this time in the form of damaging storms.

Snowfall was recorded “at elevations as low as 1,300 feet”, KTLA said. Elsewhere in the state, flooding and mudslides disrupted transport and displaced locals.

A local teenage filmmaker, Chris Kam, used a drone to capture footage of the scene near his home in Healdsburg.

Speaking to Storyful, his mother, Antoinette Hartlaub, said, “Snowfall is common in other parts of California that have a historically colder climate, but is not seen very often in Sonoma County.” Credit: Antoinette Hartlaub via Storyful
