Designer Armani Among Evacuees as Wildfires Scorch Italian Island

Crews battled to contain wildfires on the Italian island of Pantelleria, near Sicily, on Thursday, August 18, as fashion designer Giorgio Armani and former football player Marco Tardelli were reported to be among people forced to flee their homes.

Fire officials on Thursday said 20 firefighters and five rescue vehicles were deployed to control the fires and that no structures were at risk.

According to local news reports, prosecutors were investigating the cause of the fires.
